Access To Education

Sometimes, NOVOC receives funds directly from a donor to support programs among our member organisations. This was the case with access to education. We assessed the capabilities of member organisations in this area and worked with some of them to improve access to education for OVCs.

There were two major parts to this program:

  • Support to children
  • Support to schools

Support to children

Targeted children were OVCs of school-going age (primary or secondary). Support was provided in the form of school uniforms, tuition fees for those in secondary school and materials such as books, pens and mathematical instruments.

Support to Schools

Under this program, we renovated an existing school block to promote a better learning environment.

Kindle Orphan Ministries repaired 2 teachers’ offices and 4 classrooms with cracked walls and a torn roof at Namanda primary school. A total of 891 children attend this school.

“This school block was like the Zimbabwe ruins. Very unsafe to children and teachers. The renovation has attracted more children who had no interest in attending school. We would appreciate more of this kind of support. I wish teachers’ houses could also be renovated” said Mr. Alexander Guzako, Head Teacher of Namanda Primary School.
