Resource Mobilization

training

For member organizations to effectively deliver services to benefit OVCs, they require sufficient and sustainable resources that stand the test of time.

Our latest innovation in this area is the Novoc ‘stamp of approval’. The stamp gives donor partners assurance around the organization’s processes, transparency and accountability. It is a 2 year process and needs to be updated periodically. Member organizations can nominate to be assessed for our ‘stamp of approval’. See our publications page for more information.

NOVOC supports its member organizations to mobilize resources to strengthen their organizational capacity and so deliver maximum benefits to their communities. We use varied methods to assist members mobilizing resources, starting with an initial assessment around their own community’s strengths.

NOVOC supports its members by providing skills in:

  • Project Development – tips for developing and implementing projects, particularly those that generate income and are based in their local community.
  • Financial systems – tips on establishing an accountable and transparent financial system to build financial sustainability.
  • Grant Proposal writing – tips, including critical elements to facilitate project success.
  • Budgeting – tips for preparing budgets, emphasising purpose, steps and components.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation – tips on reviewing and assessing progress towards objectives, identifying problems and strategies and making adjustments to plans.
  • Reporting to Funders – tips on maintaining and strengthening relationships with donor partners.

Issues Statement

Members often ask us how to raise the income needed to carry out their missions, where to get the required resources, and how to sustain their organizations’ work with OVCs.

We have seen that developing plans or strategies for resource mobilization can lead to creative efforts where organizations work with local communities to gain support for their work. Multiple sources of funding increase organizational independence and flexibility to implement programs and reduce reliance on external or foreign funding. With increased competition for scarce grant resources, thinking of and creating options for new, diverse, and multiple funding streams help organizations manage their OVC assistance.

Program Goals

  • Facilitate resource mobilization for organizations that work with OVCs.
  • Through this, enable OVCs to realize their fullest potential and to meaningfully contribute to national development.
